Counter claim by John Scott: On arrival at Leith, John Paterson would not unload until Scott found caution for payment of freight.

(She was taken by 'La Brune' of Dunkirk, Francis Dilletto commander, on a voyage from Leith to Dundee with goods of William Donaldson, merchant of Dundee.) Beattie counter-claims that he has not yet been fully paid for building the bark.

AC9/509  Park v Miller - 1714


Arthur Park merchant of Greenock pursues William Millar of Mugdrum, once ensign at Fort William now Customs Controller at Dundee. In 1699 Park bought a 40 ton gabart, the 'William and James' of Greenock, which he renamed 'Isobel/Elizabeth' of Greenock. Millar freighted her for a voyage overseas and on her return seized her and put in a new master. Park has had her arrested at the Coal Hill below Broomielaw in Glasgow and is pursuing Miller for her price and the profits of the voyages made during his possession.

Capt Francis Willis commander of HMS 'Dalecastle', (factors Robert Seaton writer of Edinburgh and John Dukione Town Accountant of Edinburgh) has arrested the 'Catherine' of Crail, Andrew Short master, which belongs to Henry Crawford merchant of Crail, a rebel. He has put her sails aboard HMS 'Deal Castle'. He has also arrested the 'James' of Dundee, George Paterson master, with Crawford's goods on board.

Thomas Dunnett cooper of Leith, pursues James Hendrie coppersmith of the Canongate, who commissioned him to buy a load of coal, send it to Inverness, and there have grain loaded and brought back to sell wherever there was a good market for it in the Forth. Dunnett chartered the 'Marion' of Grange Pans, Robert Cowan skipper of Grange Pans master. A similar charter involved the 'Unicorn' of the North Ferry, Dundee. Dunnett has not had his expenses refunded.

William and Hugh Sutherland merchants of Edinburgh, John Smith merchant of Edinburgh and John Sinclair merchant of Inverness, pursue David Ramsay shipmaster of Dundee, master of the 'David' of Dundee. Hugh Sutherland went as supercargo on a voyage to Hamburgh on which Ramsay behaved violently towards him, drank the Pretender's health, tried to abandon him at Eyemouth on their return, and had him imprisoned by the rebels at Dundee.
