Edinburgh the 9th November 1674. Conformed the 12th January 1675


The which day, the present convention of burrows considdering the prejudice that ariseth from the settlement of their staple port at Dordrecht, judgeth it convenient to endeavour a removeall from thence, and for that effect have appoynted a letter to be written to his Grace the Duke of Lauderdaile to move the Kings majestie to concern himselff in the same; and whereas Henrie Wilkie of Boningtoun by his Majesties royall patent under the great seal of this kingdom is fully authorised in the office of conservator of the priviledges granted to his Majesties subjects in the seventeen provinces of the Netherlands, wee doe therefor recommend unto our said conservator to treate for ws with any toun or place within the United Provinces which shall be by him thought most fitt and advantageous for the Scotts staple court, and with the approbation of the Kings Majestie to conclud vpon all such good articles as shall be condiscended unto for the benefeitt of the staple court and weelfare of the commerce and trade of this kingdome, and what shall be by him concluded and agreed unto shall be approven by the royall borrows and by them halden valide and effectuall. Extractit furth of the register of burrows be me Maister James Rocheid, comon clerk of Edinburgh and general clerk to the saids burrows, witnessing hereto my signe and subscription manuall.

And in lykemaner the magistratts and toun councill of Campheer fro carieing on a worl of so much profeitt and advantage to this place have deputed upon their pairt the Heenren Johan de Maureuaull, bailliu, Mr Jacob Goddin and Leonard Thyssen, ruleing burgemasters, Peter Naehout, Stephan Ende, Mr Hendrick Serooskerke, penteonaris and raet deser stadt, as commissioners in their names, with full pouer to conferr and treat with the said conservator and to conclud vpon such articles as shall be agreed unto for establishing of the Scotts staple court within this toun. A true coppie of their coppie doeth herefter follow viz :-
Kennelyck sij allen ende eenijgelyik die hetcien guen mach dat wij, bailliu, burgemeesters, schepenen en raden dar stadt vere gehebben gecommitteert ende gedeputeert, gelyck wij comitteren ende deputeren, midts desen dese navegende heeren teweten, die Heeren Johan de Maureguall, balliu, en Meester Jacob Godin en Leonard Thyssen, regerende burgemasters, Arnold Cuningham out burgemeester, Peter Naehout, schepen en raedt, en Meester Henrick Seeroos Kerk, pentionaris en raedt deser stede, specialyck omne van osen t’wege en vt onsen name, to handelen, tracteren, enslayten wegens de Schotse natie ten dien eijnde aen geocomen; ende salex en allesaeken de vogr schreve natie en jugese tenen der voorseyde stadt na haer utterste vermogen te betrachten, soo als sij luijden in alle redlijckheijt ende rechtmatjgheyt bevenden sullen te behooren; in kennisse der waerheijt ende rechtmatjgheijt Bevenden sullen te behooren ; in kennisse der waerheijt ende rechtmatjgheijt bevinden sullen to behooren hebben, dese door onsen secretaris doenteijckenen ende met de se stadis segel bekrachtight binnen vere op den 15 Februauij 1675.

Translation

Be it know to all and sundry to whose knowledge these may come, that we, the bailies, burgomasters, magistrates and councillors of the town have committed and deputed, like as we commit and depute, with special powers, by these presents, these undernamed gentlemen, to wit Messers John de Maurenguaull, bailie; Jacob Godin and Leonard Thyssen, burgomasters now in office; Arnold Cunigham, ex-burgomaster; Peter Naehout, magistrate and councillor; Henry Seeroos Kerk, pentioner and councillor of this town, to transact and treat about all matters under negotiation and relating to us, and to carry through to a settlement here all transactions with the Scotch nation, and generally the foresaid nation and the authorities of the foresaid town are, to the best of their ability, to endeavour to act towards each other with all becoming honesty and uprightness. And for due testimony of the truth and sincerity of the foregoing these presents have been confirmed by the signature of the secretary and the seal of this town on the 15th February 1675.
