Charles R. – wheras our royall burrowes of our kingdome of Scotland have made choyse of Walter Cheislie and Alexander Sandilands, baylies of Edinburgh, and Patrick Threepland, provest of Pearth, to goe to the vnited Provinces ther to treat and conclud for setling the staple porte by our commissione and allowance, therfore wee doe give full power and authoritie to the said three commssioners or any two of them, with advyce and consent of Sir Willian Dauidsone, our recident for the affaires of that kingdome and conservator, to treat and conclud with any of the sea ports or touns of the Vnited Provinces which they shall find most fitt and comodious for the Scotts staplr porte, and to give ws ane accompt of the samen, for all quhich this shall be to them ane sufficient warrant, Given at our court of Whitehall the one and twentie day of Apryle ane thousand sex hundreth and sextie and eight and of our reigne the twentie yeir.
Lower stood : By his Majestie’s comand. And wes subscryved: Lauderdaill; being sealed in reid wax.

Approbation by the King

Charles R. Trustie and Weel Beloved, wee greet yow weill. We hawe receaved ane particular accompt of the articles agreeit wopne by you with the toun of Dort concerneing the setling of the Scotts staple in that toun, as also fo these articles whisn the Magistrats of Travar are willing to grant for continowing the staple, and haveing considered altogider with the reasons yow gave for setling it at Dorte, and being willing to countenance the trade of our ancient kingdome of Scotland and to give our royall assent to what seems most advantagious for the same, therefore wee doe by these presents authorize yow to signe those articles with the toun of Dort of quhich yow sent ane copie to our secretarie, by quhich yowe are to remove the Scotts staple from Tarver to Dortt and to setle it ther, and so wee bid yowe fairweell. Given at our court at Bayshot the sevint day of september one thousand sex hundreth and sextie eight and of our reigne the twentie yeir.

Attestation

This done, treated, agreeit, and concludit, and lykwayes heirof made twa of,
on tenor, wpon the first of October in the yeir of our Lord one thousand sex
hundreth and sextie eight, and is subscryved in the originall out of which this translatioune and copies are maid with severall hand and sealed wit severall seall in real hard wax.
