Transcription of the testament of Elizabeth Dewar, widow of George Moncreif, joiner in Veere, recorded in the registers of Edinburgh Commissary Court, 18 November 1766,

18th Nove[mbe]r Eliz[abeth] Dewar

The Testament Dative and Inventary of the debts and sums of money that were addebted resting and owing to the deceased Elizabeth Dewar widow of George Moncrief joiner in Campvere at the time of her decease who died in Cannongate upon the Eighteenth of February MvijC/ and sixty Five Faithfully made and given up by George Dewar of Eaham Esq[ui]r[e] Ann Dewar widow of George Napier of Kilmahew Margaret Dewar second daughter now on life to the deceased David Dewar postmaster in Leith and by David Greig saddler in Edinburgh husband to and as having best knowledge in name and behalf of Beatrix Dewar his spouse which George, Ann Margaret and Beatrix Dewars Brother and sisters German of the said Defunct are only Executors dative qua nearest in kin decerned to the said defunct and that by decreet of the Commissaries of Edin[bu]r[gh] as the same dated the twelth day of November MvijC/ and sixty six years In itself at more Length proports.

Follows the Inventary In the first the said defunct had addebted and resting owing to her the time of her decease afores[ai]d the debts and sums of money afterwritten Vizt The sum of Ten pound nine shillings and two pence sterling contained in a bill drawn by the said defunct upon and Accepted by Alexander Thain merch[an]t in Edin[bu]r[gh] dated the Eight December Mvijc~ and sixty Four payable at Martinmass thereafter Item the sum of Four pound ster[ling] as the balance remaining due the sum of seven pound money foresaid Contained in a bill drawn by Robert McGlashan[ - ] upon and accepted by Margaret McCulloch relict of Colin McCulloch residenter in Edin[bu]r[gh] dated the tenth May Mvijc~ and sixty two payable at Lambmass thereafter To which bill the said defunct had right by Indorsation Item the sum of Five pound five shillings sterling owing to the said defunct by the said Alexander Thain being an years rent of a Room in the defuncts house possessed by the said Alexander Thain Item the sum of twelve shillings and three pence sterling of Cash lying by the said defunct at her death Extending the debts and sums of money beforewritten in haill to the sum of twenty pound six shillings and five pence sterling which in Scots money is two hundred & forty three pound seventeen shillings

Summa of the debts Resting to the dead ijc~ xLiij - xvij -Masters James Smollett James Grame David Ross and Alexander Murray Commissaries of Edinburgh M.C.O.& C. the saids George, Ann Margaret and Beatrix Dewars only Executors dative qua nearest in kin to the said defunct and in and to with full power to the saids Exec[uto]rs and to the said David Greig for his interest to intromitt Cautioner William Reid writer in Edinburgh dated the Eighteenth November Mvijc~ and sixty six years.
